FASTER DNB

Recently, we were given the opportunity to get the inside scoop on one of London’s most exciting new events. Faster DnB as its name suggests is quickly pushing up the rankings when it comes to smoking area chat in the rave scene - offering monthly parties in the capital with lineups hot enough to melt the rubber on the bottom of your AirMax Bubblers.

Oscar took a trip to the Steel Yard to sit down with Joe, the Essex hailing head honcho of Faster, where they talked Drum & Bass, party promotion and the past, present and future of Faster. Here is what we found out as a result.

Going Back To His Roots

You would be fooled in thinking that Faster is a strictly new venture. In actuality, it is a return to sender for Joe, who ran it way back when with none other than DJ Zinc (presumably before when he still blared DnB on a regular).

Joe's aspirational life is one that represents a real raving success story; his journey began on the streets of London working odd jobs to make ends meet but never losing the will to succeed. That will eventually paid off with Joe going from wheeling and dealing, to cutting his teeth in promotion. From there he went on to run some of the biggest parties in DnB. We can’t name names but think Jump Up and you are halfway there.

Breaking The New Norms

After a long trip away, a lot can change, and that is definitely something that Joe noticed on his time off. He looks with fond memories back to the time where the music and the party was the focus, and not the balance sheet. Joe is a firm believer that what creates true brilliance in the scene, is a commitment to the fans and a love of partying that transcends all other elements. Too many promoters care only about getting punters through the door, but once you have a stamp on your wrist, you could go home five minutes later and they wouldn’t care. To run the best parties, craft the experience and the money will follow anyway.

As an already established businessman, Joe’s real aim with Faster is to build a raving experience where people are comfortable and want to come back month after month not because it is on…but because they absolutely love it. Plus, with the raving demographic largely in their mid to late 20s having to shell out 800 quid for a single bed above a betting shop in Clacton, they shouldn’t have to break the bank to make it a monthly affair either.

One of the core values of Faster is also the sound. You’ll often hear about how some parties are renowned for their sound systems, Corsica Studios, for example, is a firm favourite (if you are reading this Corsica, we now accept PayPal for those kinds of shoutouts). Joe is a disciple of sound system culture. If you are going to put on a rave and have people immersing themselves in music until the wee hours of the morning, it's only fair you deliver the best noise. His pride and joy with Faster are the sound systems, which are so good they have the DJs talking too.

Growing Fast

We are sold on the premise and we certainly see the fiery passion that is the beating heart of Faster. They have only put on two parties so far, which were both smash hits, which is surely a sign of great things to come. Joe was also kind enough to let us know some of the names that will be featuring over the coming months; there are some real treats in store believe us. After a shaky couple of years, the future of London’s DnB scene is starting to look a lot more stable, well at least more than anything else going on in the UK at the minute. The addition of Faster brings a whole new element of security. Not just an assurance of somewhere to lose your marbles, but maybe even the promise of a new spiritual home for the genre?

As far as what the future holds for Faster, Joe is playing it by ear, seeing how big he can grow the brand, but he is certainly setting his sights on doing one of Londons larger rave venues at some point. People in Surrey Quays, you know what we are talking about. Right now though, you can look forward to a string of heavy lineups on the way. We will be grooving away in the Steel Yard on April the 13th, we’d be love for you to join us. You can check out Faster in the links below.
